
Manmohan Krishan
Manmohan Krishan ( birth name Manmohan Krishan Chadha ) was a very famous character actor in Hindi films and worked in about 250 Hindi films and also in a dozen Punjabi movies from the period from 1950 to 1990.
He was born on 11th August 1921 at lahore in a Punjabi Hindu family.
Educationally, he was a Master in physics and started his carrier as a professor of physics.
After partition, his family shifted to Bombay where he changed his profession as he wanted to be singer but soon started acting in Hindi films in various roles quite successfully rather brilliantly.
As a character actor, he superbly performed a variety of roles as father , Diwan, judge, Doctor , jailor ,professor etc .
His notable films are Naya Daur (1957), Khandan (1965), Sadhana (1958), Waqt (1965) and Hamraaz (1967). He won acclaim for his work in film Bees Saal Baad (1962) .
He also won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in film Dhool Ka Phool (1960), where the song epitomizing Nehruvian secularism “ Tu Hindu banega na Musalman banega, insaan ki aulaad hai, insaan banega “ was picturised on him.
He performed exceptionally well in film Shehar Aur Sapna (1963), which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film . He also acted in the first Indo-Soviet co-production film Pardesi (1957) which was nominated for the Golden Palm at 1958 Cannes Film Festival.
He had a good rapport with the producers and directors – Chopra brothers and acted in most of their famous films such as Deewar, Trishul, Daag, Hamraaz, Joshila, Kanoon, Sadhna, Kaala Patthar, Dhool Ka Phool, Waqt and Naya Daur .
Later in his career, he also directed the hit film for Yash Raj Films named Noorie (1979) for which he was also nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Director .
Manmohan krishan had a very sober and soft voice, and almost all his roles were gentle in nature and he had an image of a righteous person in all his films .
This highly famous and talented actor died at Lokmanya Tilak Hospital, Mumbai at the age of 68 on 3rd, November,1990. His son Dr Ram Chaddha is a famous spine surgeon at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai.
