Kishore kumar
Tributes to his great singing talent
Kishore kumar is considered as the best male playback singer of hindi film’s golden period at par with or perhaps a step ahead of great Mohammed Rafi .
Kishore was the idealised voice of a young man, his singing style being that of a formally untrained gavaiyya गवैया — that’s the reason the youths of the 1960s and 19079s related with it and so do the youths of now.
His voice is eternally the voice of the young men  — of Dev Anand’s in the 1950s and 1960s , of Rajesh Khanna in the late 1960s and 1970s, of Amitabh Bachchan in the 1970s and of Anil Kapoor, Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff and Govinda in the 1980s. By singing for them and becoming their voice , he had a great role in turning them in to cinema superstars .
His singing style resonated with the youth without shedding even a bit of masculinity . Kishore Kumar’s charisma extended much beyond his unparalleled, youthful singing — the anecdotes of his mad behaviour, his amazing comic timing and dancing , his energetic live performances and the deep-seated melancholy in his personality fascinated and still fascinate his fans .
He proved beyond any doubt to the music directors of his time that formal training in music and singing is not a prerequisite to become a great and successful singer .
He established that when feelings are deep, the words are simple, the singing is uncomplicated with no gimmickry or complex ‘taans ’ or ‘harkats’ ; a formally untrained singer, free from shackles , by singing from his heart can create wonders .
Kishore Da was also an amazing stage performer — a man ahead of his time who would have been a  king on today’s TV as well. He brought mad fun to the stage, changed it forever. Before him, singers stood rooted to the ground as they sang, holding the mike but Dada would dance, do somersaults and squat on stage and then, when the time would come to sing , would just  hit the perfect note. He would win everyone’ s heart by his jolly , laughing and playful nature coupled with jokes and pranks .
Today , 37  years after his death , when he was the virtual king of Hindi playback singing, the voice of Kishore Da is, probably, heard daily by more people than ever before , thanks to the smartphones , YouTube and FM radio channels that have proliferated after his death. His songs have racked up a bigger numbers than other singers .
