Kamal kapoor

Kamal Kapoor was a famous character actor cum villain in about 600 hindi , Punjabi and Gujarati films from the year 1946 to 1997 . He was also producer of two films .
Kamal Kapoor was born on 22.2.1920 in Peshawar in a punjabi hindu kapoor family and was a cousion of Prithviraj kapoor ( Masi’s son मौसेरा भाई) and completed his studies in Lahore’s DAV college. He married to Suman devi in 1945 and had three sons and two daughters. His younger daughter is the wife of film-maker Ramesh Behl .
He Moved to Mumbai to work with cousin Prithviraj Kapoor who introduced him with the role of a British Officer in the play Deewar (1944).
He Made his acting debut as a hero in the film Door Chalen दूर चलें ( 1946).
He Played the role of Raj Kapoor’s father in the film Aag आग ( 1948) which was Raj Kapoor’s first film as producer-director .
Kamal kapoor himself Produced two films – Kashmir (1951) and Khyber (1954) and became bankrupt after his film Khyber flopped and he had to sell his only car in 1954 due to financial crisis . However he purchased a new car in 1966 after regaining popularity and stability in various roles particularly of a blue eyed villain .
He acted as villain for the first time in the film Akhiri Dao आख़िरी दांव , followed by film Johar Mehmood In Goa” which was released in 1965. This movie proved to be a big hit and
Soon he was flooded with work and was offered to play different characters in films like Johar In Bombay , Johar Mehmood In Hongkong ,Jab Jab Phool Khile ,Raja Aur Rank,
Dastak, Pakeezah, Paapi , Chor Machaye Shor , Five Rifles , Do Jasoos, Deewar
, Khel Khel Me and Toofan .
He got another chance to play Raj Kapoor’s father in 1967 film Diwana .
In his career spanned over five decades he played different kinds of roles from a gangster to the police officer. He played the role of Don’s right-hand man Narang in the movie Don (1978). This blue-eyed actor always had a powerful presence on screen.
His other notable work includes film Gora aur Kaala and film Mard in which he played the role of evil General Dyer.

Sadly like many others ; kamal kapoor too got no recognition and awards though he successfully worked in over 600 films and earned a name in the cinema world .
