Anant Balwant Dhumal
Anant Balwant Dhumal ( popularly known as Dhumal) was a character actor with focus on light comedy beginning from Marathi Stage dramas to Marathi and hindi films .
He was born on 29th, March , 1914 in a marathi hindu family .
He started his career in 1940s by working as a service-boy for a Marathi stage drama company and in between he used to get smaller roles to play at stage in place of original absenting actors and this is the way Dhumal got his initial little acting practice and opportunities.
But soon he was spotted by big drama world names like P. K. Atre and Nanasaheb Phatak and started getting bigger roles in stage shows.
From stage drama , he graduated to first Marathi and then to hindi films .
His first Marathi films were Peera Dhaigude and Jeevacha sakha both of 1948 and first appearance in hindi film was in 1954 film – jagriti .
He thereafter worked in numerous films of which most notable are Howrah Bridge (1958), Bombai Ka Babu (1960), Kashmir Ki Kali (1964), Gumnaam (1965), Do Badan (1966), zindagi ( 1963 ) kashmir ki kali ( 1964) Love in Tokyo (1966) , Arzoo ( 1965) Ankhen( 1968 ), Naya Zamana ( 1971) , jugnu (1972 ) and several more .
He was a finest actor and a funniest comedian of Hindi cinema’s Golden period and in fact and at times audience used to like and appreciate him more than commedians like Mukri and Mohan chotey .
His last film was Pyar Ka Mandir of 1986 and he died on 13 February 1987 at mumbai at the age of 72 leaving behind his smiling and entertaining face and very fine and comic acting roles in large numbers of films .
