D.P.Sapru was a talented , handsome and a blue eyed famous actor from kashmir who acted in various roles in hindi films from 1944 to 1979 .
His full name was Daya krishan sapru , born on 16.3.1916 at jammu to a Kashmiri Saraswat brahmin family . His father was employed in the treasury of Maharaj . Sapru had his education in jammu and lahore and was fluent in hindi, punjabi and English. Since childhood, he was inclined to singing , music and acting .

This is what the then famous producer director V. Shantaram had told the young Sapru in 1944 who had come all the way from Jalandhar to his Prabhat Studios at Pune .
Looking at his face and after the usual interview Shantaram signed the blue eyed handsome Sapru for the role of a Maratha peshwa in his next movie RAM SHASTRI. Sapru played the role very well and the movie turned out a big hit. He was signed as lead hero by the Company on a hefty monthly salary of Rs3000/, highest ever paid to any hero during those days enabling Sapru to live a princely life .
Thereafter acting offers in Films continued to pour in and he acted in several films , prominent of them being Romeo and Juliet , Jhansi Ki Rani , Kalapaani , Dooz ka chand , Hum Hindustaani , Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Mujhe Jeene Do , Leader , Shaheed , Tere mere sapney , jewel thief .
He had become quite popular and played very successful roles in films Naya Daur, Prem Pujari , Krodhi , kudrat ,Dharm Veer, Deewar , Dream Girl, Zanjeer , Pakeezah ,Adalat Charas , Patthar Aur Payal Gambler and many more films . That was his golden period when writers would create a character for him in the script. He was seen either as a Judge, lawyer , father, Zamindar, or a Police commissioner in most of his post-hero era films .
His personality and voice was very impressive and he would deliver his dialogues slowly. Even in crime thriller movies with negative roles for him ; he would act like a sophisticated person .
In his long filmy career from 1944 to 1979, he acted in more than 350 films and out of which he played lead or major role in more than 50 films.
He also played lead roles in some Gujarati and Punjabi films.
D K Sapru met famous and popular Marathi actress Hemvati and they got married . Inspite of his hectic film schedules , Sapru was always a family man and loved to spend time with his children and family.
Sapru also acquired good working knowledge of Homeopathy by reading Homeopathic books and would treat the patients without any charge often buying medicines and distributing them free.
He had lot of facial resemblance with another contemporary character actor – Murad and the resemblance was so much that at times people used to get confused between the two.
Sapru died on 20th, october,1979 at the age of 63 at bombay and left behind his son Tej Sapru and younger daughter Preeti Sapru both are actors in Punjabi and Hindi films. His elder daughter Reema Nath is a scriptwriter and director .
