Actor Murad ( birth name Hamid Ali Murad ) was born on 24 September 1911 at Rampur , Uttar Pradesh and was a character actor who appeared in more than 200 Hindi films from the early 1940s to the end of the 1980s, playing mainly the roles of a father, police officer, judge and an emperor.He had studied at Aligarh Muslim University.
Murad’s debuted in the 1943 film Najma which was directed by Mehboob Khan and then onwards he became a regular actor in Mehboob Khan’s films such as Anmol Ghadi (1946), Andaz (1949), Aan (1952) and Amar (1954).
His other notable film roles included Do Bigha Zamin (1953) as a cruel landowner, Devdas (1955) as Devdas’s father, Mughal E Azam (1960) as Raja Maan Singh . He acted in about 200 films .
Murad had great facial similarities with character actor Dp Sapru enough to confuse anybody.
Murad died in Mumbai on 24 April 1997, at the age of 86.
His son Raja Murad is
a character actor cum
villain in hindi films and tv serials .
