Kanhaiya lal
Character actor Kanhaiya lal is well known to the film audience as Sukkhi lala , in the role of a money lender in film Aurat औरत of 1940 and it’s remake as Mother India मदर इंडिया in 1957 and his famous dialogue “ कर भला सो हो भला “. He was the first person in movies to play the same role and in similar story first in 1940 and then 17 years later in 1957 .
Kanhaiyalal was born in 1910 in Varanasi to his father Pandit Bhairodutt Choube, who was the proprietor of the Sanatan Dharm Natak Mandali in Varanasi. Kanhaiya lal joined this drama group at the age of 16 against the wishes of his father and started writing and also doing small roles . After his father’s demise ; this small drama company got closed and Kanhaiya lal went to bombay to try his luck in films as writer and director .
In bombay he staged his own written play “ Pandrah August” and wrote many plays . Not being successful he started doing extras role in films .
He got a break in films when in 1940 he got the role of a moneylender (Sahukar) in film Aurat as Sukkhi Lala and was quite successful.
Later he acted in many films in different roles such as Thakur , seth , tehsildar , teacher , diwan , Purohit, Munim etc .
But his most memorable role was as Sukkhi Lala ( village Baniya cum sahukar / money lender ) in golden jubilee hit movie MOTHER INDIA along side Sunil dutt , Rajendra kumar and Nargis .

His memorable roles include those as villainous , greedy and wicked minded moneylender / Munim in the films Mother India , Ganga Jamuna and Upkaar . He acted in about 122 films .
Kanhaiya Lal was very fond of eating paan, so much that he used to eat more paans than food. The rustic and rural accent in his speaking and acting made him a superstar and with these qualities he succeeded in leaving his mark in the hearts of the audience. He was also a poet and writer and had also written songs in many films.
A documentary based on his life “ Naam Tha Kanhaiyalal “ was released on MX Player on 29 November 2022.

so ho bhala (A good deed always comes around) “ as one of the most iconic dialogue by a villain character in Hindi Cinema.
He died on 14 August 1982 at the aged 71 at Delhi not before he left his splendid mark in the hindi cinema. People will remember him for a long time .
